Beta-alanine

To know the effect of Beta-alanine on the capacity of muscular work we must first talk about Carnosine. Carnosine is a di-peptide that concentrates in muscle and cerebral tissues. Carnosine consists of Beta-alanine and Histidine. Carnosine helps to keep the muscle Ph relatively neutral when a large amount of lactic acid is produced. It is known that the level of Carnosine is limited by the amount of beta-alanine available. Studies show that a greater amount of Beta-alanine increases the concentration of muscle Carnosine. Thus, an optimal rate of Carnosine through a Beta-alanine intake means a lower level of lactic acid at the muscular level which allows an increase in muscular work. Beta-alanine therefore becomes an important element to prolong or intensify your training by delaying the effect of lactic acid.
